Farmbots don't care how tall your walls are if there's an easy path around them — they care about the shortest route to your crops. Here's the logic that makes a defense actually work, without needing a finished fortress.

Know what a raid is actually attacking

It's easy to assume a raid is coming for you personally and build a defense around your character. It isn't — Farmbot raids path toward your crops specifically. That means the highest-value thing to defend is the farm plot itself, not your bed, your Craftbot, or your vehicle. A base with an undefended farm and a heavily walled everything-else will still lose the crops.

One good choke point beats a long wall

New players tend to reach for a full perimeter wall, which takes far longer to build and is far easier to leave a gap in without realizing it. A single, deliberate choke point — one narrow entrance that funnels anything approaching into a predictable lane — is both faster to build and easier to defend, because you only need to cover one spot instead of an entire boundary.

Think of it less as a fortress and more as a doorway you control. Everything about your defense gets easier once attackers have to come through one place.

Turret wiring that doesn't waste ammo

A turret left running constantly burns ammo on nothing and gives away your position early. Wire it to a motion sensor placed at the choke point instead, so it only fires when something is actually approaching. This single change is the difference between a turret that's still loaded when the raid arrives and one that's already dry.

  2. Wire it to your turret's trigger input

    The turret should stay idle until the sensor fires, not sweep continuously.

    Walk through the choke point yourself once wiring is done — if the turret doesn't respond, fix it before the raid warning, not during.

Walls: continuity over height

A tall wall with a single gap is worse than a low wall with none, because Farmbots will take the gap every time rather than the harder path over the top. Prioritize a fully continuous barrier around your farm plot before you spend extra resources making it taller. Once the loop is unbroken, height becomes a reasonable next upgrade.

Timing: build before the warning, not after

As covered in the Day One guide, planting too large a patch too early triggers a countdown with no clear audio or visual cue for when the actual attack starts. Waiting for that warning to start building your choke point is cutting it close. Build the defense structure first — even a rough one — and expand your farm into it, rather than planting first and scrambling to wall it off once the countdown is already running.
